How to start a chapter?

As you can imagine, we get asked this question all the time. "How do I start a chapter"?
Below are some general details for what it takes to start one.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • There must be at least 10, non-relative, members in that area, who have passed the application process. The rule of thumb is that 20% of the members will do 80% of the work.  Speaking from over a decade of experience, a chapter with only 3-5 members typically struggles.

  • Members must be close enough to each other to meet on a weekly or bi-monthly (2 times/month) basis.
This is not negotiable.  The key to an effective chapter is meeting regularly and having constant fellowship.  Trust us, we've leared through trial and error.

  • Those members must also vote on a chapter president and everyone should get together to establish a vision for the chapter. We require a short-term (1-year) and long-term (3-year) vision statement.  This is to be a collaborative effort on the part of all potential chapter members..

  • The president should be at least 21 years old) and he/she will be interviewed by Gus and/or myself and will be expected to write the final vision statements for the chapter. Presidents MUST be a 1 Timothy 3 leader. Chapter presidents are nominated by chapter members, but are put in place by our Corporate Officers.  The position is not up for vote every year, unlike other chapter officer positions. This position is held until the president steps down or the corporate officers remove the sitting president.

  • Once that's all approved, the new prospective chapter is responsible to come up with half of the cost of the air fare or gas to fly one of our executive officers out for a group meeting.  That officer will meet with the group, answer questions, fellowship with you for a few days, and it will really help to establish a solid foundation.

  • Chapter officers are responsible for voting on all incoming membership applications.
