Testimony
It has been a long road to where I am today, which speaks greatly of the grace and patience of our Lord.
I was raised Catholic. My father was not at all devoted to his faith and was a terrible example. This led me to look elsewhere for answers. My spiritual mentor growing up was my Uncle Ray. He taught me about the gospel message and was there to answer my questions. I was only 11 when I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior in a little Baptist church in Missouri.
Unfortunately I only saw him every couple of years. I didn't know how to continue and grow in my walk with the Lord. Along with my father's neglect and my mother's subsequent alcoholism, I backslid. My parents eventually divorced and I later moved in with mother. I regained some of my faith and commitment when my mother sobered. We were able to repair our relationship and recover the years we had lost. However, I had a rather large falling out with my father and we didn't talk much for years.
I never lost faith in God through my many years in a backslidden state. I knew he was still watching out for me. Even when I tried drugs, drinking, and sex as a teen, I was never lost to it. I never got as deep as my friends and somehow managed to avoid any lasting effects from any of it. I did however continue to drink somewhat heavily and had many spells of depression.
After marrying my wife, we had a rough first couple of years. After so many problems, we had decided to separate. However, God had other plans, lol. He was calling me back, and the message was loud and clear! My wife and I didn't separate. We knew that what we needed in our marriage was Christ. We recommited our lives to the Lord. Since then, we have been able to grow together in our faith and love for the Lord. I can't tell you how much the Lord has blessed us.
The Lord gave me the strength to heal and repair my relationship with my father as well.
It's a wonderful thing to have peace in your salvation and know that God is watching your back no matter what. Praise the Lord!
